British Photographers You Should Know

Photography is a part of our everyday lives; whether it’s on the bus, on tv or on social media, we are always confronted with it in everything we do. With the rise of Instagram the platform has shed light on some extremely talented photographers who are really making waves in the photography industry. Most now owe their fame to the platform, however they are still up against some of the industries older photographers who had already made an impact on the world without Instagram. Today we want to focus on British photographers we think you all should know!

Martin Parr

Martin Parr: BBC Oneness

Martin Parr is a British documentary photographer and photojournalist. He is known for his photographic projects that take an intimate, satirical and anthropological look at aspects of modern life, in particular documenting the social classes of England, and more broadly the wealth of the Western world. You will most likely recognise the top picture as it is features on BBC oneness along with the others from the same project.

Heather Angel

Heather Angel: Macro Shot of Bumblebee

Heather Hazel Angel MSc is a British nature photographer, author and television presenter. Heather was a new photographer for myself and we are pretty sure she'll be new to quite a few people in younger generations. She has contributed tremendously to wildlife and nature photography and is very well known for being a macro photographer. Just look at those images! The detail and colouring is stunning and we feel you could truly get lost in them for hours.

Charlie Waite

Charlie Waite: Landscape of Lavender Field

Charlie Waite is an English landscape photographer noted for his "painterly" approach in using light and shade. There is something very peaceful and calming about Waite's work. His use of light and shade truly do capture the beauty in the landscapes, from the colouring to the structure. Every photo you wish you could have seen the real thing with your own two eyes, whilst also feeling you could just step right in.

David Bailey

David Bailey: Portrait of Her Majesty The Queen

David Royston Bailey, CBE is an English fashion and portrait photographer. We know for sure you will definitely have come across Bailey. His portraitures have been admired across the world by millions of people for decades and has photographed some of the biggest icons of our time, including royalty: Her Majesty The Queen!

Don McCullin

Don McCullin: Portrait of Homeless Man

Sir Donald McCullin, CBE, Hon FRPS, is a British photojournalist, particularly recognized for his war photography and images of urban strife. McCullin's photography is so different but so impactful we had to include it. His images truly depict the effect of war on a nation. He shows the gritty fine details to really portray their anguish.
