The craft of Sieve & Riddle making was made extinct in late 2013, the last Riddle maker Mike Turnock had retired 3 years earlier and his successor then suddenly sadly passed away. Hill & Sons ceased to be, and the craft, knowledge and tooling were now extinct. In June 2017, Steve Overthrow received The Heritage Crafts Association's newsletter which had a link to the Red List of Endangered Crafts. It was while reading this that I learnt about Sieve and Riddle making being extinct. I love gardening, I love tools, I love British made from natural materials and thought I could do with a good Sieve, so I did some research that evening, couldn't find a lot but I examined the little I could to start to piece together the craft. I had been looking for an excuse to steam bend wood, this was it. In the next few months I made a steam box and began to make the custom tooling to be able to make Sieves & Riddles.
